At 1 lie Trades and Labour Council lust evening- a loiter wus received from llio Auckland Engine-drivers' Union stating that tliey could not subscribe to the fund to enable the council to send delegates to Iho forthcoming Trades a.nd Labour Conference in JJuncdin. ''They considered," concluded the (secretary (Mr 11. Bamfield), " that it was :i waste of time and money to, send delegates to the conference." Exception was taken to the tone of the Inst sentence, which, it was contended, was a slight on ihc conference. One speaker considered that the Enginedrivers' Union was the last wliioh should state such a thing, as upon tho agenda paper for the approaching conference they would find no k*.a than a column devoted to matters proposed by Iho engine-drivers. The delegates present pointed out that tho items on the agenda piper were proposed by the Wellington Union, not the Auckland body. They also explained that llio Auckland Union wus short of funds. Mr Rosser said that if the union could not give financial assistance, it could givo its sympathy, whirh was worth it lot ; anil on his motion it u'as decided to refer tho letter back to tho union for reconsideration.
