MISSIONARY LECTURE.

Tho missionary lecture given' by Dr Grattan Guinness, missionary organiser, in the Choral. Ilall last evening was well attended, and those present gave close attention to tho subject'of the lecture. Dr Guinness v dealt at some length with tho heathen conditions of the ancient world and witli the many movements, such as the Reformation, that had done so much towards Christianising people in various parts. Foremost among these movements was missionary enterprise, and we were living in the day of this groat evangelising: work. Ho did not believe people wore' alive to the tremendous responsibilities that rested upon them in connection with this great work of evangelising the world, and were content, as a rule, just to give a little attention to it. A large number of churches in New South Wales gave absolutely nothing to tho missions. Instead of sending out a few teachers, not always very well prepared, we should do as the Church at. Antiocli did—select the best. Further, ho did not lielieve that the Christian Church should relegate her work of evangelising to societies. He thought it was quite right she should have societies, but let her recognise that she had charge and was responsible for the evangelising of the world. Dr Guinness then wont on' to describe tlio condition of China, Japan, India, and other countries, and referred to the glorious progress of God's work in these lands. In concluding, he made an urgent, appeal to all to bo fellow-labourers in redeeming tho world. Wo wcro living in the ago of the application of redemption, and the work had been loft with lis, and we should understand the character and magnitude of our responsibility in (he matter. Lot as ask ourselves, " What can I do to lift up and save my fellow man?"
