AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION.
DISAGREEMENT IX AUCKLAND. (Pb* Xlkitid Piess Association.) AUCKLAND, March 20. The Education Howl's instructor in agricultural education and Nature-study (Mr Jac.ksou). who has lately given instruction to teacher/, in the Hamilton and Whangarei districts, has now gone on to the Pnkekolie district. where the board bus arranged thai the I'nkekolto School should be closed on two days at ilie beginning of ihe week, Papakura in the middle of the week, anil Tuakau for Uvo days at the end of the week, to enable the teachers of these schools and those in the vicinity to attend the classes. This lias aroused ■ tlie opposition of the committees concerned. and protests weve received at the board's meeting to-day. The secretary of the l'ukekohe Committee wrote 'itha-t at a nieeling ihe following resolution was passed unanimously: — " That Ihe secretary write instructing Mr ■ jFlavell to keep the school open on Mou- , (lav and Tuesday." It is the opinion of the committee that the closing ot the school as proposed would seriously affectthe whole school, but more particularly tlio High School form, in that it would lose most of the pupils attending. Tim ■proposal of'the board would mean that the children would forfeit three weeks' tuition. This would place litem at a disadvantage with other schools iu all competitive examinations. It was resolved tha-t tho arrans<einenls lie adhered to. but that the High School teacher at l'ukekolte need not attend.
