LAWN TENNIS.

By Lob.

The coming Invercargill tournament bids fair to eclipse anything held under tho auspices of tho Otago Lawn Tennis Association in previous years. The Dunedin clubs will bo all well represented, while more entries will be received from country clubs than previously. The present holders_ of tho various championships arc all going.. down to defend their titles. The • lady • champion (Miss Campbell) should have very little difficulty of oncc more annexing the cup. Tho re-Jiili, of the Men's Singles and Doubles championships is, however, in doubt.' Ccrtaini.v 11. S. Brown, the present' holder of tho Singles, has a big chance; still he has to meet Salmond and Thompson, who wero not playing last year, and both of whom ore in good form. Sinclair again has to bo reckoned with, if he can last. Salmond and Sinclair should go very, near taking tho cup from the Brown Brothers, tho present. Double champions. Tho handicapping of tho handicap events shouljl present many difficulties to the liandicappers, ns entries will ho receiver from unheard-of players in country clubs, who may turn out to be "dark horses."

! Mr Hodgo. the tournament secretary, informs pie that tho grass courts are in apple-pio order, and' playing as fast and true as.asphalt, and if the weather holds should give every satisfaction to players. Entries close on Saturday first, tho 23rd inst., at Invercargill, and intending entrants should bear this in mind in order to 1 facilitate the work of the handicappers. Mr Hodges will be glad to supply partners for those players who are entering for double events and cannot find them, and will also find accommodation for players where necessary. To assist tho management the secretaries of chlbs should, when sending down the entries, give full particulars of the'various players' positions in their clubs. The majority of tho officials of the Otago Association will Ixs in attendance at tho tournament.

_■ Norman. Brookes has definitely dccidcd to join t!io New Zealand champion, A. F. Wilding, in England, and, in conjunction! with this player, make another bid fcrr tho Davis Cup and international 1 supremacy at Wimbledon. Brookes will leave by tho Moldavia on 2nd April. AVilding is already oil the way, and if there is anything irt England or America that can beat this combination it must bo tennis of a superlative order. Whether they win or fail it is gratifying to know that if we scored tho length and breadth of the land we could not get two belter men to rcDiusent Australasia in test tennis than Brookes and Wilding,
