DUNEDIN BURNS CLUN.
Tlio monthly meeting of the Duncdin Burns Club wns held last night in tho Choral Hall, Mr R. Gilkison (vice-presi-dent) presiding in the unavoidable alannoa of the president (Mi' D. M'Pherson). Tho hall was well filled with an enthusiastic audience which thoroughly appreciated tho ■ excellence of the musical programme presented to it. Piper J. M'Donald contributed somo stirring bagpipe music, and Mr C. Beath's orchestra followed with an orchestral selection (" Scottish uivs"), which was one of "the most meritorious items of the evening. The club choir took part in three songs ("Over tho Sea," " Scotland yet," and " Scottish fantasia ") and tho .following singers contributed items:-Mrs Monkman-Dempstcr ("Robin Adair" and "The minstrel boy"), Miss Laylands ("Valley by the sea"). Mist Kaston ("Scotland yet"), and Mr J. Carter ("Battle of Stirling" and "Aftou Water"). A piano and violin duct was very acceptably rendered by tho Misses M'Donald. During the evening Mr R. Gilkison addressed a few words to those present, congratulating the club on having concluded the sixteenth year of ils existence. He reminded them that the club had boon the lirst to institute monthly meetings and to admit women' to its meetings, and tho present nourishing condition of the club proved the wisdom of theco measures. This year, for the first time, a scholarship at the Otago University, valued at £45 (£ls a year for three years), was to be given. The examination, which is to bo on subjects of Scottish interests, would bo held on Monday and Tuesday next, Dr Nisbet and tho speaker acting' as examiners.
