MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The usual mscling of tho Pioneer Lodge, J.0.G.T., was held on Tuesday evening in tho lower Choral Hail, Bro. D. Gain, C.T.. presiding. There was a very large attendance, five of the city lodges paving official visits, as well as the executive of the Dunedin District Ledge. Ono candidate was initiated. It was decided to pay an oiliciat visit to the Star of Freedom. Short addresses wore given by Sis, F. Thorn, Bros. Stubbs, Hilton, Morrison, Whale, and Sinythe; Bro. M'Loan gave a recitation, and songs were contributed by Sis. .lilease and Bros. Stubbs and il'Laren. Greetings were received from the Egmont Lodge, Auckland District Lodge, and the Murat Crown Lodge (Cawnpore, India). The visitors' vote was acknowledge by representatives of all the local lodges. Bro. Cocker of Lifeboat (Timaru), and. Bro. Periera of Pioneer of Wellington. I>nring the reccss an abundance of fruit was supplied by tho Pioneer members. Hie fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Hand ami Heart- Lodge, M.U.i.0.0.1*'., was held on -Tuesday evening, when X.O. Bro. R. C. Allmitt presided. After the business of tlio evening was transacted, a discussion of tho district business took place. Four candidatos were initiated. The- following responded on behalf of the visitors:— P.P.G.M. Bra. Cable (Ixiyal Prince ot Wales), P.G. Bro. WilUins (Loyal Dunedin Lodge).
