«ft Tho monthly mooting of the executive ot the Oatlins-Tahakopa Railway League- held yesterday afternoon in Mr D. M. Fca's office, was attended by Messrs R. Cliisholni (chairman], \V. J. Bolt, D. U. lea, mid J. D. Waters (secretary), Mr J. Gvryn, reporting for the month of February, eaid that tho works had to a certain extent been retarded hy the weather. There were at present from 60 to 65 men employed. The bridge was king pushed on, and would probably be about finished at- tho end of April. Work 911 tho llouipapa station yard -was brisk, but no machinery in connection with the stoneorusher had arrived. Mr Malcolm, M.H.R., had had a look over the lino, and 6ce'med favourably impressed. Ho had also brought the good hows that Iho Minister of Publio Works had definitely stated that, next year iho intended to make tho Catlins-Talia-■kopa lino, the main .Otago line for con-struction-expenditure. The Chairman eaid it was satisfactory to know that tho member for tho district was taking an interest in tho prosecution of tho line. Ho expressed tho hope that iho stated intention of the Minister of Public Works regarding tho lino would be carried out.' Mr Fea mentioned that Ilio Calling district had never looked bettor. Tho bush fires,'so far' from having boon a disaster," had proved an advantage in many localities by- burning off growths of an undesirable character, Mr Gwyu's report was adopted.
