CASUALTIES.
An accident occurrcd 011 board the s.s. Riverina at 3 p.m. yesterday at. Port Chalmers. While caj'go was being loaded at the Boweii pier a couple o[ bales of wool slipped from tho sling when just above the hatchway, and in falling ono of them struck a seaman* named J. M'Donald, who was unable to step back in time to save himself. ll'Donald, who was struck on the head, received attention' from Dr Stewart (onp of tho passengers), who at oncc ordered him to bo removed to the Hospital, whither ho was conveyed iu the 4 p.m. train. Hie bead and thonldevs were bruised, but his injuries wcro not ot a perious nature. A man named .Tames Arthur met. with accident at Ihe railway duplication works at tlio Glen bridge, Caversham. yesterday which necessitated his removal 'to the Hospital. From the particulars obtainable, it appears that Arthur, who is employed at the works, was sitting on the end of a. truck about midday when an engine came alomr and bumped tlio truck, causing Arthur to fall on to the rails. -After falling he was propelled forward for a few yards, and sustained some bruises on his shoulder.
