Richards,.oi Lynevor, Neiith lias heen selected from among the 28 candidates who applied for the position 01 lrnfossor of Mathematics for the University of Otago. Mr Richards, who is a Welshman, is young, being only 27 years of age, but ho has bad „ distinguished career. He k an M.A. of Camlindgu, and he was thirteenth Wrangler in 1901. He was first class Part 2 in tho 1902 Tripos, and Major 'Scholar, Trinity College, Cambridge, after Part 2 Mathematical Tripos. He took a complete course- of engineering under Professor Ewing at Cambridge, and also a course of practical astronomy .at the same university. At tho University College of Wales, AberystwrUi, where "he then went, he had a large class, and at present bo is taking smother class of 40 scholars at the RutherCollege, Noweastle-nn-Tyne. In July, 1905, M.r Richards was appointed lecturer of appl'red mathematics at Aberystwytli, leaving there a year ago for «. year's coiiree of_ practical engineering al the Klswick Works of Sir W. Armstrong, Whitwortli and Co., ;,t. Newcastle.
Professor Richards, who is unmarried intends to leave for the colony by the s.s. Atbeiiio on the 7th February,'
