WANTS REFORMING.
Sir,—l beg to draw your attention 1 (o the barbarous methods employed by tho collectors of refuso in Dunedin. Passing through tho main streets a little beforo 9 people have to run the gauntlet of rows of buckets, wooden boxes.- kerosene iins, oven cardboard boxes, full of every kind of refuse. On a windy day they stand a good chance l too of receiving most of the dust from these in their eyes and lungs. Then, again, the man who collects tho refuso from Upper Bowling street by way of the steps frecpicntly spills a great part of it on the steps. This morning thcro was a trail from top to bottom of ashes and house refuse. As probably 200 school children go up these stops in the morning, I ask—Can nothing be done to institute a more sanitary and decent method of collection?—! am, etc.,
ir. [An inspection of the Dowling street steps by one of our staff yesterday morning certainly justifies the complaint made by our correspondent. The trail of tlio dust-curt man was badly in eridenco from top to bottom of tlio steps.—Ed. O.D.T.]
