ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
'The meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs R. Chisholm (chairman), C. P. Buttorworth. A. E. Farquhar, T. Brown, S. M'Donald, and K. Forrest. Mr F, Deans (manager) was also present. Tho report of tlio manager (Mr F. Deans) stated that tho distribution of fish for ihe season was finished. The work had taken longer this year than usual owing to tho large number to turn out. From tho Opoho hatchery 286,000 brown, 56,000 Loch Lcven, 34,000 rainbow, 6000 brook, and .16,000 Scotch burn trout had been turned out. Tho Scotch burn trout came from tho Clinton hatchery, and from the same place 4000 rainbow yearlings wero transferred to tho Shag and Waikouaiti Rivers, and 500 wero put into Tomahawk Lagoon. The streams being in such a low condition poaching had been reporctd from various localities. The rangers had dipped on some of tho poachers. Three aviaries had boon crected at Opoho for the housing of tho pheasants lately secured by the society, and also an enclosure for tho Chinese and Japanese ducks.—The report was adopted.
Mr James Stevens reported that 938.000 brown trout fry, 128,000 Loch Levcn fry, 50.000 Scotch burn fry. 30.000 rainbow fry, 3000 brook fry, and 8700 rainbow yearlings, 6100 brown trout yearlings, 6600 Loch Leven yearlings, and 850 salmon yearlings had been distributed from the Clinton hatcheries. The work of distribution had been considerably facilitated by the assistance given by angling societies and individual anglers and others throughout tho district.—The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £44 3s were passed for payment
