CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.
A WOMAN ARRESTED. (Fir Uhitf.d Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 21. An inquest on Ihe infant child of Susan Mangau. who was plaintiff in the Wrack maintenance case, concluded to-day. Tho jury found that death was duo to" failure of nutrition, the result of defective nourishment, dun to gross neglect of duty on the part of Mrs Charlotte Evans in not providing medical advice for tho child. The jury added a rider that the evidence, disclosed that the law for the protection of infant iifo was being systematically evaded, ohildrcn being got off the books of homes to prevent inquiries. They urged an amendment of .the law to prevent such evasion. Mrs Evans was arrested and charged at tho police court in tho afternoon with manslaughter. A remand was granted on the application of tho police, and accused was released, bail being fixed at £100.
