Lord Harris, Lord Lansdowne, and Lord Ashbourne, speaking in the House of Lords, condemned the inexcusable action of the Government in cabling to Johannesburg in December, on the eve of a general election, certain Ministerial statements attacking the Witwateisraml Native Labour Asociafion. Lord Elgin (Colonial Secretary) defended the action as quite legitimate, though the practice should liot bo utilised frequently.

Sir Percy Filzpatrick has been elected, polling 191 against 361 polled by Sir Richard Solomons, and 170 by Mr Burke, the Independent candidate. Sir Percy Fitzpatrick received a. great' ovation.

In Pretoria tho excitement is indescribable, and racial feeling is running strong.

While the returns were being received 20,000 people assembled in the Market square at Johannesburg.

A Renter message states that the 18 Progressives fleeted include Sir Wools Sampson, \Sir George Farrar, Mr Abo liailey, and Mr Yanhalsleyn.

The 16 Het ( Volk members elected (including those returned unopposed) include Mr Smul6, Dr Krause, Messrs RLsa'dc, Rooth, Langerman, and Do Viiliers.

The six Nationalists elected include Sir Richard Solomons and his brother, Mr Edward Solomons.

Three Labour candidates have been elected.
