EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of tho Education Board was resumed yesterday, and was attended by Messrs T. Mackenzie, M.H.I!, (chairman), W. Snow J. Mitchell, D. Borric, A. M'Kerrow, W. Scott, G. C. Israel, the Hon. T. Fergus, and' tho Rev. I'. B. Fraser. DESIGNATION'S. Tho following resignations were accepted:— Cornelius Mahoney, head master, Fairfax,; Homy G. K. Simpson, sole •teacher, Rao's Junction; Margaret C. Young, solo teacher, Kokonga; Jane Lindsay, -solo teacher, Taicri Beach; Jemima E. Masters, solo teacher, Beaumont; Emily Wood, sole teacher, Tarns; Eliza M. Budd, mistress, Milburn; Irene N. Hurley, mistress, Matakanui; Alico G. Bowling, mispress, Cromwell; Winifred A. Valentine, mistress. Hawca; Jessie Cairns, mistress, Totara; Francis E. L. Forrester, first, assistant, Ravcnsbourne; and Cecil Pollock, pupil teacher, Albany street.

Budd, seventh assistant, Forbury, vieo I. Cooper, promoted; Charlotte Harrison, assistant secondary department, Hampden, vico C. M'Gregor, left service; Ircnu N. Hurley, janior assistant, Outrani, new r:ppointment; Eliza C. Gawn, junior assistant, Balclutha, new appointment. Florence Shearer, fourth assistant, Green Island, vico L. Jones, loft service. Winifred A. Valentino, junior assistant, Green Island, new appointment. NJPIL TEACHERS. Tho following transfers of pupil teachers were/ made:— Janet B. Dcwar, from Alexandra to Sawyer's Bay; John S. Nelson, from Balclutha to Stirling; Mary Dale, from Maeandrcw road to Clinton; Victor 11. T. Bremner, from Union Street to Tokomairiro; Elizabeth S. Brims, from Kensington to George street; John Graham, from Green Island to Kaitangata; Emily Mitchell, from Maeandrcw road to High street.

The following pupil teachers wero appointed, subject to tlieir producing a satisfactory medical certficato from a medical officer approved by tho board:—Daniel iHartstongo and Stuart Gordon M'Donald, to Arthur street; John Alex. Colquhoun and Hugh George Brown M'Donald, to Kaikorai; Alex. Bringans, to East Taieri; Eliza Joslin, to George street; George Gibb Menzies, to Maeandrcw load; Alex. Gillos, to Albany street; Dors Allan, to Oama.ru Mddle; Hilda Marie Carrick, to Kaitangata; Eliza Lillias M'Corkindalo, to Tokomairiro; William M'Ncill, to Maheno. THAWING COLLEGE STUDENTS. The following wero admitted as students to the Training College:—Doris Allan, Irene Barth, F. Barton, Gecrgo Bcilby, Jcssio Borrio, Margaret Corbett, Thomas Dallas, Cath. Fletcher, Whnmpoa Fraser, Angela Hastings, Lorna Hunt, Gladys Rishworf.il, Jean Shaw, W. T. Slatc'r, Annio F. Smith, Percy H. White, Agnes Wix, and Ethel Marwick.

Messrs A. Dempster and 11. Mitchell waited on the board as a deputation from tho Albany Street School Committee with -reference to needed works at tho 6chool.— Tho matter was referred to tho architect.

Accounts amounting to £9060 were passed for payment. A telegram was received from the Education Department stating that it was hoped that in a day or two the board would bo advised respecting a school at Moa Flat.—The chairman was authorised, in tho event of such advice being favourable, to instruct tho architect to prepare plans and call for tenders to bo in at next meeting. BACK-BLOCK SCHOOLS. The Rev. P. B. Fraser gave notice of motion—"That the board bring under the notice of the Minister of Education tho clamant necessity of provision being made in the Teachers' Salary Act whereby 10 per cent, shall be added to the salary of teachers occupying certain schools in such out-of-the-way places an have hitherto failed to attract qualified teachers, provided teachers in such positions havo/oev tificates equal in grade to those in similar schools nearer the centres of population."
