PERMATURE EXPLOSION.
YOUNG MAN BADLY INJURED. (Fjsj United Pkkss Association.) TIMARU, February 18. A young man named Thomas Vincent, who was married only three months ago, was badly injured by tho premature explosion of a charge in a quarry blast this afternoon. Me wa.s tamping a horizontal bore with clay, using an iron roil, while his father, Air Alfred Vincent, supplied the clay. Soon after tho tamping began tho charge exploded, blowing young Vincent and a, block of stone about a lon in weight half a chain away. One of Vincent's logs was shattered, unci his other limbs and his head wnro badly hurt. Ho was removed lo the hospital. His father was cut about the scalp and face, and wa.s bruised about tlin limbs. Another son, who was whirled round an engine shaft at (he quarry two or three weeks ago, is recovering.
