CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA. (Per United Priss Association.) CHRISTCHUROH, February IG. The cbnmpioiship regatta was held at Lake IVirsytli to-day, and was eminently successful as far as the ricing and attendance were ciucorncd, but tlo conditions were highly unsatisfactory, bill from the competitors and spectators' pont of view. From an early hour in tho aiorning- tho sky was overcast, and about 11 o'clock rain set in from tho Boufh-west, aid only lifted cnice for a brief half-honr during the proceedings. The racing on tho whole was distinctly good, the only proccssion witnesed being in the Champion Sculls. Also started: Canterbury Rowing Club, Port Chalmers. Canterbury, TVaitemata, Picton, and Blenheim wero the first to niovo, but were quickly followed by Avon. This was the order at tho half-distance, where Blenheim showed out just in front of Union (Wangamii) and Picton, the latter two having improved their position. A great, finish was witnessed when nearing tlio post, but Union had too much pace for their opponents, and passed the post a good length ahead of Picton, with Blenheim a longth and a-quarter behind Picton. Tho Picton crew wero not allowed to start owing to their late arrival at the post. They roived tho distance, however, and paced iho Akarav crew, who established a substantial lead half a mile from home. They maintained their advantage, and passed the winning po3t ■ about three 'lengths ahead of Otire, who beat the Star by about two lengths. MAIDEN FOURS (In. association clinkers). First prize, £12; second, £2. One mile. Blenheim Rowing Club (A. Norgrovo, A, A'orgrove, G. C. Griffiths, Mutton stroke) 1 Canterbury Rowing Club (R. H. TVebb, J. L. C. Merton, S. Light-baud, F. Also started: Union. (Ciiristchurch), Christchurch Amateurs, and Oamaru. Lyttelton got away first, followed by Canterbury, with Union lying a little behind, but beforo tho half distance was reached brtli theso crews had overhauled Lyttelton. The Blenheim crew then came away, and got' into the leading position, Canterbury rowing second. This order continued right up to the finish, Blenheim winning by a. bare length. Lyttelton just beat Christehurch Amateur for third place.

YOUTHS' DOUBLE SCULLS (in association clinkers). First prize, £7; second £2. One mile. Canterbury Rowing Club (L. A. Dougall, G. S, Oollyns stroke) 1 Christ-church Amateur Rowing Club (\V. Beaumont. F. Ryan stroke) 2 Union Rowing Club, Ckristchurch (G. Arnold, T. Booth stroke) 3 Also started: Lyttelton, Akaroa, and Star. After a good start Canterbury took the lead, followed by Union (Christcliurch) and the Christchnrch Amateurs in that order. At about half the distance the Christcliurch Amateurs put in some vigorous work, and gradually drew past Akaroa and Union. ' They failed, however, to reach Canterbury, who won by a length, the Union lying three lengths away, third, and Akaroa, close u,p, fourth. YOUTHS' FOURS (in association clinkcrs). Canterbury led at the start, and were followed by Star and Oamaru. That order was maintained until the finish, when, after a great struggle, Canterbury won by two feet. Oamaru finished, two lengths away, third.

Akaroa then took the lead, but failed lo maintain dfc against the Union, -who were rowing strongly, and who won by a length. Lyttclton Rowing Club (J. Gallavin, A. JUNIOR FOURS (in association clinkers). First prize, £15; sccond, £3. One mile and a-lialf. Blenheim Rowing Club (C. Costello, A. Thompson, T. Heffer. JT. Jordan stroke).. 1 Star Boating Club (E. From a good despatch the crcws maintained a fairly even line, which tho Blenheim boat was the first to break. Union (Ohristchurch) and Star followed, but Blenheim maintained their advantage, and at tho post were 100 yards ahead of Star, who passed Union during the last half mile. A heavy mist liitng over the lake wlien this event was dccided, and it was not till tho last half mile that the crews could he seen. Canterbury then appeared to have tho advantago of Blenheim, who were' Fculling strongly. Union (Christchurcb). PorC Chalmers, and Waitemata being next. Two hundred yards from homo Canterbury were still in tho lead, but Blenheim gradually got on terms witii them, and won by & foot, Pott Chimera two Jcgitlts away.
