CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.

The following reports-will lie submitted to the City Council at. its meeting to-morrow evening:—.

The Water Committee recommends that water rates charged °" churches not supplied with water be written off, ond reports that a reply has been sent to tlto Maori Hill Borough Council in terma of roport from Mr Geo. M, Barr regarding repairs to roads iu Maori Hill; the laying of tho water services M connection'* with the reticulation of the Borough'.of Maori Hill is to be carried out by the department's staff under supervision of the water inspector; the tender of Messrs A. and T. Bnrt (Ltd.) for the supply and delivery of valves and fittings for the Maori Hill reservoir for the sum of £238 has been accepted..

The Works Committee reports and recommends as follows:—That permission be given to the Duncdin Drainage and Sewerage Board to make certain alterations in the basement of the Town Hall Buildings, to provide office accommodation, etc., as per plans submitted, and that a rent of 30s per-week be charged for extended premises; that the request from Messrs Scoullar and. Chisholm (Ltd.), for the removal of the bank in front of their section, corner of Rattray and Dowllng streets, be granted, estimated cost £26; that the amount allocated to Grosvenor street (£27) be expended in kerbing and channelling six chainß of Cargill road; the committee affirms/ and is in agreement with, the principle and methods of tho improved carriageway pavement construction, but recognises that tho timo'is not opportune for the flotation of a loali to give effect to theso proposals; tho application from Mr Jacob Crow for >' lease of the Corporation Quarry and plant at Woodhaugh is declined. Tho Reserves Committee recommends that portion of the Anderson's Bay Cemetery to be selected by tho City Engineer and Superintendent of Gardens and Reserves be set aside for use by Koman Catholics. The City Engineer has been authorised to act as to the following applications for crickot pitches: Caversham • Baptist Young Men's Cricket Club, on Town Belt at Alontecillo; Young Mpn's. Christian Association, on Southern Recreation Reserve; Maori Hill School Cricket Club, on portion of Town Bolt known as ." The Clear." • Superintendent of tho Botanic Gardens and Reserves has been instructed as follow; Armngo for w.c.'s ami connections in ladies' cloak room at Botanic Gardens, cost £8; erect notice boards, forbidding dogs in tho recreation reserves; repair fenco of Museum Reserve.

The Gas Committee reports having authorised the chairman and gas manager to act in regard to an application to purchase an exhauster and gas engine, which is not required'at the gasworks; authority has been granted to extend the Sin gas mam in Bathgate street, South Dunedin Ward, for a distance of. 3 chains, cost £15 10s, the applicant for gas to pay £5 towards cost of the extension; an offer of £C 0 per annum for a tenancy of the residence at the gasworks has been accepted for a period of 12 mpnths from the 10th inst.

Tho following applications have been declined :-(l) Dunedin Bands' delegates for payment of the charge of 30s made to various bands for gardener's fees attonding evening concerts' in the Botanic hardens; (2) St. John Ambulance Association for purchase of a yearly tramway ticket for the use. of the district nurse. The traffic returns for the tramways for the fortnight ended September 1, 1906, as compared with the corresponding period of last year, were as ■follow:— Receipts—l9o6.
