PROMISES OF SUPPORT.

At last night's mooting of the Port Chalmers Borough Council a communication was rewired from the Otago Harbour Board's secretary, in which was given particulars of Iho nmnner in which tho board's eudpwincnls had boon taken over or severed by the action 'of tho Railway Department. A copy was also forwarded of the petition which is being circulated for signature in Duncdin, asking tlmt sueh legislation may' bo enacted as will afford roasonablo compensation and relief.' At last night's meeting of tho Otago Central Railway League, on tho motion of Messrs Ketnpthorno and Burnett, it was resolved—''That this league sympathises with and highly appreciates tho action taken by the Harbour Board in respect of tho foreshore, and its determination to send a special deputation to Wellington in connection therewith."

At a meeting of the Typographical Union it was_ resolved to forward tho following' resolution to tho Minister of Railways:— •"That this union;' whilo thoroughly appreciating tho progressive policy of the department, respectfully urges the Minister of Railways to reconsider his decision to erect
