Play immediately settled along the eastern outline—whither tho wind was tending,— and was patchy and uninteresting for the first fivo minutes. Then M'Cl'elland dashed oft', and, beating Rameay. whisked in to tho centre where Morrison and Robertson both missed the ball. Kilgour cleared a middle from Ward, but M'Crcnnor obtained, and pointed for goal, but went wide. Raeburn dashed off down the right wing, and, beatinn two backs several i times in his ran, sent across to tho centre, but Yomig cleared. A kick by Forrest was charged down by ■Morrison, but the opportunity was spoiled through Irvine taking tho bail when palpably off-side. M'Clelland obtained possession, _ and eluding .Tones sent hard across to Irvine, who slipped when in a likely position. From a throw-in Morrison headed to Irvine, who drove in a good shot, which went over the bar. Ward and Jones invaded Otago territory, and Racburn caught Young da'lying, M'Nish staving off. A timely effort by Irvine ended in a centre to Ratlcy, who snickcd to Mormon, that player steadying and shooting over the bar. Roberf-oii nullified by off-side play. Kilgour blocked Bissott and Otago came away again, work by Grant, Morrison, and Irvine ending in a shot which Russell barely pushed out at the comer. Then ensued an exciting scramble in front of Canterbury goal, Morrison screwing in and Robertson scoring, but tile latter wa.s properly ruled off-side. Young and M'Nisli overlapped, and M'Creanor kicked hard over the line. A corner kick to Otago was headed over by Morrison.' Whilst Canterbury were appealing .Ussher-centred from bard up agiiin-t the line, and Morrison created

a. laugh by hitting Hie liar from a clear posiiion a few yards in front of goal, Russell clearing. Fast play again ensued, and Harrey gave Raebnrn an opening. Grant Once more saving. The usual return found Ussher heading neatly to Morrison,'who, with a clear owning, was beaten for pace by Binning.
