CONFERENCE OF FLAXMILLERS
A NEW OIUDINC! SYSTEM. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, .Inly 26. A conference, attended by 50 flnxmillvrs, 'was held to-day. Mr Ritchie. Secretary for Agriculture,- presiding. The gn'ding system was discussed, and various other regulations proposed by the department. As a result tho grading system, will be considerably changed, and instead of the old system of pointing a new system will be installed, it was resolved that in future grading should be—'' Common," 50 to 59: " fair," 60 to 69; " good fair," 70 to 79; " fine," 80 to 59: " superior," 90 to 100. The department, had proposed to make regulations with 8 points margin, but the principle of 10 points margin was upheld. A discussion took place regarding five divisions, and resulted in favour of 20 points for washing, 20 for scuteVng. 20 for stripping. 20 for bleaching, and 20 for strength. The effect •will be to lower the grade of "fair" by 2 points. The conference' recommended that the salaries of graders be increased, with a minimum of £300.
