Mr W. Pryor. parliamentary secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, left yesterday to attend the annual meeting of the Canterbury Employers' Association.
A Wc.lingtou messago states that Mr 11. H. Ostler. LL.B., associate to the Chief Justice, Ins teen unpointed editor of the New Zealand Law Records, at a salary of £150, with the right to piucuse as a barrister.
Mr Frank Crompton Smith, aged 38, died at Fcilding on Sundav night. He was for two years president of the Chamber of Commerce, and was an active member of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association Committee. Ho was popular amongst the farming community. A Wocdville telegram says:—" Marshall and Tickers, driver and guard respectively of the train which got smashed >t Piripiri on NewYear's Eve. and who were dismissed the service, have each been presented with a purse of sovereigns by iho people of the district. The opinion was expressed that they had been harshly dealt with."
Mr and Mrs W. B. Graham, who are about to remove to Milton, whero the former will assume the dufies of rector of the High School, were entertained by (heir Musselburgh friends at a progressive euchre party in the St. Kilcla Bowling Club's pavilion. During tho evening Mr Callaway, on behalf of tho Tennis Club, presented Mrs Graham with a. panel picturo in recognition of her energetic services as treasurer of the club; and Mr Marlow on behalf of the Bowling Club, presented Mr Graham with a silver-mounted ebony walking slick. Both speakers made complimentary references to tho recipients. Mr Graham responding on'behalf of himself and hia wife.
The Mr Brimtnell who successfully contested tho Surry Hills (Sydney) seat, is an exmajor of the Salvation Army, who resigned his position in order to take up temperance work with tho New South Wales Alliance. He stood for the New S?uth Wales Parliament at tho last State election, but was defeated. Mr Bruntnell is well known m New Zealand, being second in command of tho branch of tho Army in this colony Eomo years ago. He visited New Zealand last year, at the lime of the local option poll, and took an active part in the election. His election to a Sydney seat will give temperance reformers cause for jubilation.
11l the Chamber of Commerce rooms yesterday, Mr E. W. J. Johnson, who has been conducting a class for commercial men in connection with Mr F. A. Hornibrook's School of Physical Culture, was presented by members of that class with n Mosgiol travelling rug prior to his departure for Australia. ..

Mr James Gray, who was for many years manager of tho manchester department in Messrs Sargood, Son, and Even's Dimedin warehouse, and who left Wellington by tho Oswestry Grango on Monday to take up an important position in the firm's London establishment, was honoured by his fellow employees prior to his departure from Dunedin. being presented with a travelling bag for himself and a. gold bracelet for Mrs Gray.
