The Blues gradually forced their way through, and a passing nisli initialed by Harrison and continued by Adams and JTacpherson terminated by Adams scoring near tho corner. Adams failed In convert. Soon after tho resumption of play Gilray got. the ball, but instead of running down Iho line he cut in, and thereby lost a chance of scoring. From the next serum, however, the University got tho ball, and Adams scored again, this time in a fairlv good position. Harrison making a good but. futile effort lo convert. The lilues maintained their advantage, and soon increased their score. Krom a kick by M'Donald a mark was secured by Scanned almost in midfiold, and Adams drop-kicked a splendid goal. The University had tho best of the play for the remainder of tho spell, but I hero was no further score when half-time was called. The second spell opened with a good rush by the Kaikorai forwards, and from a subsequent passing rush Arinit nearly scored.' Tho hill team maintained tho attack, and Coulter got over the line, lint was unable to ground llio hall. Tho Blues removed tho pressure, and then Withers initialed n fine passing rush at the University twenty-live, tho ball being afterwards handled in turn by Wi Repa, Lomas, and Macpherson. tho last-named scoring. It was an excellent piece of play, and the score was well deserved. Adams fnilod with the. kick tit goal. Another of Iho University's meteoric passing rushes look plaee a little later. Wi Repa snapped i up tho leather near his own twenty-five, and after making a splendid run ho passed jo Gilray, who dashed through llio opposing backs and made straight for the goal posts. Armifc managed to bring him down about half n dozen yards from Ihe lino, but the University player got up again and grounded'the ball behind tho posts. A scrum was ordered, however, whore Gilray was collared. Tho University wcro not to be denied, and when the ball came out, passing between Dansey, Lonias, and Adams enabled tho last-named to score his third try. The kick at goal was a fairly easy one, and Adams added tho additional two points. Tho Kaikorai then assorted themselves, and, playing well together, look Ihe ball to their opponents' end. and after a brief .struggle broke through tho defence, James Morrison scoring, and also kicking a goal. The Blues then became aggressivo once more, and Ihe hill team had a busy time in coping with tho clever passing of thoir opponents' backs. They succeeded in keeping tho Blues 111 check for the time being, and eventually forced the latter back on their own line. Tho University hnd their hands full for a few minutes, and ,Coutler was only prevented from scoring by being thrown into touch-in-goal. This was the last, effort on the part of tho Kaikorai, and for the remainder of the' spell tho University had thorn almost, completely ba filed. Time after* ime tho Blues' backs, tinil sometimes their forwards also, broke away on passing bouts, and tho defence limply crumbled away before the onslaughts. On 0110 occasion Macpherson got over tho lino at tho corner, but tho referee's view was obstructed, and when Mr Williams arrived on tho scene a Kaikorai man had possession of tho ball, a force-down being given. Tlio University attacked as strenuously as before, however, and passing between Dansey, Wi Repa. Adams. Lomas. and Macpherson resulted in another try being secured, Iho lastnamed scoring behind tho posts. Harrison failed with the kick. The Kaikorai fared no belter when play was resumed, and were unable to prevent their opponents from'placing another try to their credit. On this occasion the leather was handled liv Thomson, O'Callaghan, Dansey, Wi Repa. Lomas, Macpherson, and Stewart, I lie last-named groundine the ball over Ihe line. The match between Ilk Alhambra and Duti'.'Mlin was played at Carisbrook. The ground was raiher soft, there was little or no wind, and there was a fair attendance of iho nublie. For some time after the kick-off the Alhambra kept tho play about

Alhambra gradually forced Dunedin back, but Raton's long punts placed the Alhambra again on tho defensive, and from a loosn serein Clarke started a passing rush, which ended in Teesdale scoring about midway between the goal and tho corner. Some pretty play bv U'Kenzie, Given, and Know'es terminated in the lastnamed scoring at tho corner. Harridew failed to convert, though he made a. good kick. This match was played at Port Chalmers in the presence of a largo number of spectators. Southern played against a. slight bieezo in the first spell. For the first quarter of an hour play centred in the visitors' twenty-five, but eventually a dribbling rush by tho Southern forwards carried play towards tho Port line. From a line-out. the Southern backs got going, and Chambers made a fmo opening, enabling Stanley lo score. _ Eckhold failed with the kick. From •tho kick-out Port carried the play into Southern territory, and after some uninteresting play the homo team was awarded a free kick for foot-lifting in the scrum on a Southern forward's part. C'ra-mond kicked a fmo goal from a difficult angle, thus equalising the scores. Southern returned to tho attack, and from a Free kick given against Port, for (Ira half back handling tho ball while lying on the ground Eckhold kicked a goal. Port then attacked, and Gray missed a good ehanco of scoring by failing to take the ball, and Southern forced. A fine rush by the Southern carried play right up to the Port line, and 8. Casey lost an opportunity of scoring by tho ball going into touch. Half-time was shortly afterwards called, From the kickoff in tho second spell Port Chalmors attacked, and Crainond missed a fairly easy shot at goal from a free kick. Southern carried the play into Port jterritory, and Eckhold kicked a goal from a penalty for handling tho ball in the scrum. Afterwards Sheehan broke awav and crossed the lino, but lost the ball. Edwards, however, who was following ui>, secured it, and scored. No goal resulted. Southern continued to press, and Smith scored from a dribbling rush, Eckhold failing with the kick. Shortly- afterwards Colt.horne missed an opportunity of scoring through overrunning the ball. In the closing stage of the gamo Sheehan finished a fmo rush bv scoring a try, and taking tho kick himself registered t.ho major points. Tho whistle sounded immediately afterwards with the score; Southern 20 points. Port Chalmers 3 points. Pirates v. Union-. Tho game between tho Pirates and Union was played at Tahuna Park, the weather being fmo and tho ground in good order. Pirates played with tho sun at their backs in the first spell, but the Union had a light breeze in their favour. Fast, even play prevailed in the first spell, until tho Union wing three-quarter failed to return a long kick, and nearly let the Pirates over. The Reds then came away with a good rush, and obtained an advantage by charging down- rVyinks's kick, but tho Blacks got relief from a free kick. From a scramble Wilkinson broke away with tho ball, but lost the chance through kicking too hard. Shortly afterwards Cramond had a shot at goal for the Pirates from a mark, but the ball went over the post, and tho spell ended without either side scoring. The Pirates became very aggressive from the outset in the second spell, and after several efforts to score were awarded a free kick, Cramond registering a goal. From a serum in the centre the Pirates got the hall, and Clark niado a good opening, and then passed to Hayes, who scored at the corner, Cramond's kick being unsuccessful. After a littlo give-and-take play, Clark got the ball from a scrum on the line, and dashed over at the corner, Crainond again failing to convert. Clark got tho ball from a scrum near the Union line, and after feinting prettily scored his second try. Fenwiek failed to add the extra points. The Pirates continued to attack, and from a loose scramble tho hall went to Cramond, who scored after making a good run. Tho kick at goal was 'again rcsultless. Alhambra defeated Kaikorai by 32 points to 4. For tho winners M'Corkiiidalo (3), Marsden (2). Dryden, Nelson, Brooks, Simpson, and Garvey scored tries, and M'Kcnzio kicked a goal. Williams potted a goal for the Kaikorai. Dunedin defeated Southern by 10 points to 3. Mason and Bond scored for the winners, both tries being converted. Campbell scored for Southern. Mr E. Austin was a very efficient referee. Zingari-Riclimond and Pirates played a drawn game, each side scoring a try. Tho mateli Taieri Rovers v. West Taicri was won Sy the former by 14 points to 3. S. Tnrnbull (2), Barnes, and J. Thomson scored tries, and the last-named also kicked a goal. Mr Monro gave every satisfaction as referee. THIRD GRADE. Zingari-Ricbiuond claim a win against Port Chalmers by default. Kaikorai claim a win against University by default. FOURTH GRADE. Kaikorai boat Dunedin B bv 3 points to nil. The match Dunedin A v. The Roslyn forwards made things lively from the start, anil after cutting in Lambert Iransferred Ihe leather to Clark, but the latter was well stopped by the Southern backs. The Roslyn forwards, from a long return from Edwards, set up another dangerous rush, but could not break through the Southern defence, which was very sound. Then tho Southern had a look in. Morningtou B defeated Green Island by 7 goals to 1 after a fast and interesting game. For tho winners Henderson (2). Elisor (2), Smith, Brooke, and Kilroy scored, while Love scored the only goal for Green Island. Mr Martin gave every satisfaction as referee. THIRD GRA.DE. Rangers defeated Morning-ton E at Morningtou by b goals lo 1. Maori Hill defeated Northern C by 4 goals lo nil, the scorers being Day. Murphy, Reynolds, and Bathgate. W.
