The annual social in connection with the Hanover Street Baplist Chinese class ma he'd on Monday evening. Mr Matthew Ching Hoy, also, oil behalf of the Chinese scholars, presented to the church an enlarged photograph of Mr Walter Pntwson. who has always taken the keenest interest in the welfare'of'tho Chinese in our city, and. indeed, throughout the colony. This portrait will adorn the walla of the class roMi, alonj with a portrait of tho lato Mr Buchanan, which the Chinese presented during tbo year. In accenting the gift, on behalf of the church. Mr Hay said that the Chinese had no truer friend than Mr IV.erson. and' tiiey w«ro glad tlut his memory would bo perpetuated by '.ho gift which tho Chinese had so generously given.
