ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.
The regular "monthly meeting of the Peninsula Road- Board was attended by Messrs
Walker ' (chairman), M'Cimiy, Black. M. Robertson, and Y,'. Robertson. Mr Duckworth asked (lie board- for a grant of metal for the -road leading, to his property—lt was decided to grant X 2 yards of metul for the toad where requested. Mr R. Inglis asked that the' surfaceman be allowed to remove the sand from the road leading to his properly, ami it was decided to grant the request.
When >tlie surfacemen, were employed. Mr Shaw asked that the water tables and culverts on Old Manso road. Higbcliff, bo attended to; also that about 51) yards of metal bo put on the Fame ioncl. Mr Shaw agreed to let the board hn-ve the metal from his quarry free oi royally.—lt was decided to grant the request, and also that the surfaceman be nut on immediately to effect necessary repairs. The'clerk was instructed to write to Mr Sim, asking him to make proper crossing at his ontrswe.es on the Old Manse road. A letter
from Mr 11. I.arnnch, with reference to roads in 'i'aimii Townshirj. was referred to the Chairman, Messrs M'Cnrdy, and W. Robsrtson. for a. report. It was decided that Mr M'Kendry be allowed to go ou with bis contract of quarrying and breaking 150 yards of metal at 3s .Id per yard. It was resolved tbat a rate of gd in the S be struck, for Ibc year ending March 31, J!X)7, and that Mr Beijdcr,Fon bs appointed collector. Accounts amount-
i.'ig to £31 2s were passed for payment. The annua! meeting of ratepayers in the Porlobello road district wa.s held on Monday Inst, the following ratepayers beina present: — Messrs .Tames Dickson. J. ,T. M'Csrtny, J. 11. Soeton, Macnndrew, Hillyer, Hinkley, and Porlerfield. Mr Dickson was voted to the chair. A draft of the balance sheet was read by the clerk, and was considered very satisfactory. The business of (he adjourned meeting was then taken up. Mr Dickson was ummimouslv re-elected chairman. The inspector reported re. J. T. Nyhon's read to Mount Charles, and it was resolved to repair tho gate entrance, and form a Git track across the hgoon, tit a coat not to exceed £10. The, clerk of the Peninsula Board wrote, stating that bis beard wou'd not repair the Beech road at EaVicw as the Bay Town Board received tho rates from the adjoining properties. It ws,s resolved thst tho clerk write, slating that the road was dangerously bad, and if an nceident occurred. the hoard would not seccpt liability. An amplication by air John Dick thst the road leading to bis property in WiAliffe Bay be repaired was Teferred to tho inspector for a report. Mr Millar Anderson was granted permission when fencing in section 14, block
I, Broad Bay, to orcct a survey gate across the road at the b<v«h durine the plfimir' l of the board, llr J. Hooper mole, stating that the pipes put in .in the newly-formed roads in Waver'ey were not in the natural watercourse, anil' the water from them was injuring his property. The inspector wan instructed to have the defect remedied. The Peninsula Road Board wrote, statins that no work was to be done by the Portobello Board beyond its boundary until the Peninsula Board sanctioned the work.
