The Premier and the Minister of Marino were waited upon to-day by ,1 deputation from the Westport Harbour Board with regard to the improvement, of the harbour. Tho deputation renewed tlio request for authority to construct a, floating basin, which could be economically done out of tho board's revenue. Tho basin would cover about 19 acres, and would accommodate ?ix large vessels. It would cost about £103,900. Tho breakwater should bo extended on the West-port side. The Premier expressed some doubt as to the advisability of extending the breakwater. Tho experience of. Groyinoufh was not oneoura<rin(r. He was prepared to fjivo- authority for 200 ft to see how it acted. A strong argument for the floating basin was that, if, would increase tho scour on the bar.
