Palmerston, Waitati, and 3 Kurow, 10 in all, had some excellent sport ' last week among Ihe'hares at Hakataramea. v For three days they put up a. tally of ovei 400 r hares. Tho veteran Harry Collins accounted v for a good number, as also did Messrs H. I M'Laren (Palmerston), Colehan (Waitati), and ' M'Donald (Palmerston), and his dog Dusald, a c fine specimen with a keen scent and very e strong, repeatedly retrieving game given I lip as lost. During their stay at h Station Peak, Waitangi and Hurstleys were visited. At the lf.ttei place tho hares wore very plentiful and strong, giving excellent sport. Among the party was ] a gentleman over 75 years of age, a fine shot I and .as active as a pointer on the hills. Tlio v bag not only contained hares, lint also grey )i ducks, swans, and puknkis, which fell to the w guns. Seeing that three lmres eat equal to f one sheep, the runholders were highly pleased ij at the success of the sportsmen, extending in- ,i vitation ad lib. to repeat the dose. The sight ], as the hares -were laid out at tho Oamaru {, station was to be remembered, Mr Lane, of a Dunedin, took a prominent part in directing operations, being an old hand at hare-shooting in the district. The evenings went merrily f too, Messrs Frankenstein, Mailman, and tho brothers M'Laren supplying songs and music.
