Pre3s Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PIETERMARITZBURG, May 4. (Received May 5, at 8.47 a.m.) A magistrate and policeman, who were tax-collecting, wcro murdered at Malilabitini, in Zululand. (Received May 5, at 11.21 a.m.) Tho magistrate (Mr Stainbank), accompanied by his wife and another lady and a policeman named Feflnris, collected the tax unopposed till they reached the south bank of the White Unvolose, on tho Vrylieid border, when the natives volleyed into tliem without warning. Two of them were wounded. Tho party fled fur 10 miles without further molestation to Mahlabitini, where Mr Stainbank, on reaching the magistracy, expired. Fellaris is still alive. May S. (Received May 6, at 11 a.m.) Mr Stainbank, who was the son-in-law of Mr Winter, Secretary for Native Affairs, was shot in the knee while connecting the field telegraph wires. He inspanned his cart, and abandoned his safe containing the collected hut tax. The 6afe was afterwards found intact. Fellaris's real name is Sells, and he is the 6on of a Guildford doctor. Colonel Mackenzie crossed the Buffalo River and laagered, the local chiefs at Mahlabitini • behaved well. The chiefs expressed indignation and grief, and sent their followers to search- for the murderers. Dinizulu's offer to send Mankulamana and 30 picked men to trace Bambaata. has been accepted. LONDON, May 4, (Received May 5, at 11.45 a.m.) Tho Independent Labour party has issued a manifesto in which it demands an inquiry into the condition of the natives in South Africa. It contends that Natal is so inflamed that tlie people of that colony cannot judge impartially. It further asserts that the colony is provoking the natives to rebellion.
