SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The regular monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers District High Schcol was held on the 4th inst., and wa.s attended by Messrs J. MacLachlan (chair), J. Mill, C. \V. Hi'Jier, W. Hunter, F. \V. Matte, A. Thornton, and J. SmaiL'. The Rector's roport showed the number on the roll to be 459, the average attendance for the month being 421, which wa.3 considered very good. The Chairman stated that he had been in communication with tho Education Board with reference to laying off the now playground and had received a promise that the matter would be attended to this week. llessrs B. Miuchop and A.. W. Hillier wero appointed a A'isiting Committee for the prc- . sent month, and accounts amounting to £6 15s were passed for paymont. The monthly- meeting of tho Musselburgh School Committee was hell on Friday night, and attended by Messrs ! Swing (chairman), Gore, Mollifon, Mattiews, Jacobean) Cameron, and Harris. Tho head-master (Mr Wihite) was also present. Tho averago attendance at the school was reported as . 163. As the seating accommodation in one of (ho rooms was insufficient it was decided to apply for two more desks, and also for some tcacliing. assistance for the infant room. It was' agreed to grant (subject to parents' consent), ; .the application of tho Ctdontologioal Association for permission to examine the children'# teeth. The following committees were ' elected:—WorksMessrs Ewing, Mollison, Gore, Jacobsen, and tho clerk; Finance—Messrs Ewing, Matthews, Cameron, and Harris; Visiting', Messrs Jacobsen and Gore. Messrs Mollison, Matthews, and Cameron were elected delegates to the Schools' Association.
