LONDON, April 27, (Received April 28, at 0.23 a.m.) Tn the House of Commons a motion to cancel the salary of the Lord President of the Council (Earl Crewe) on the ground that the position was a sinecure was negatived by 232 votes to 131. The Government, which was reminded of its pledges of economy, declared that Earl Crewe deserved his salary of £2000 for representing the Hoard of Education in the House of Lords.
The minority included all the Nationalists present, numbering 21, all Mr Bardie's followers, the Unionists, and five Liberals.
The Times says that if the whale, of Air Redmond's followers had been present the majority against the motion would have been below 40,
