RESTRICTION OF STREET TRAFFIC.

TO THE EDITOR. Sip.,—As a constant observer of tho traffio in Rattray street, at its intersection with Princes street, I was, to put it mildly, extremely surprised to learn that tho police arc taking action to confine all down traffio at this point to that part of the street between the tramway line and the Government Life Insurance Building. I think the action o' the police is in this instance quite unjustifiable, inasmuch as at, this spot, with a car standing at the terminus, there is scarcely room for a vehicle to pass; whereas on the other side there is ample width for three to pass in comfort. AVhat is more. I consider the police are by their ;ietion directly prejudicing the safety of the public, as it is on this side that the great majority of people usually board and alight from the ears. Surely at this, of all places, the driver of a. vchiclo should lxi left largely to his own discretion in choosing tho most suitable route. Were the police to give their attention to those foolhardy individuals who pass this spot at more than a walking pace their action would lie more intelligible and their efforts more praiseworthy.—l am, etc., Obskrvee.
