WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Waihemo County Council met at Palmerston on Saturday, when there were present —Crs J. Ross (chairman), Phillip, Muir, Matheson, Stenhouse, and Clark. REPORTS. The Inspector reported as follows for the month:—Macraes: Tho road referred to by Mr George Clark, near Moonlight School, is very water-worn in parts on the north side where Mr Eraser's property joins it. The watercourse is through Mr Frnscr's section, but by some circumstance it turned on the rnadline. Part, ot the Main rood to Hyde, near Gillyburn bridge, requires banking up and improving. — Dunback; The Grange bridge has been attended to; the trusses and joints ate to be found in a good state of preservation except the truss at tho north end, which shows signs of decay. The bridge was only closed for five days, and well-seasoned timber was. put in. The injured pier in the centro shows no further signs of deteriorating, and as it lias been in the same condition for 13 years I do not think it will cause any further trouble. The old timber has been taken to Dunback. with the exception of 40 planks taken to Palmerston for repairs to old bridges and culverts.—Bushy: Work on the road to Beach road has been commenced, but horso labour i 3 scarce'.—The report was adopted. CORRESrOSDEXCE. Tho County Clerk. Waikouaiti, forwarded a resolution in regard to the Pound road at Macreas, stating that if the necessary permission was given in writing, Waikouaiti Council would undertake to spend some money.on tho road in question,—Permission given. Notice war. given of a case of typhoid fever at Goodwood, and another infectious disease at Macraes Flat, where tho patient had died. —Tho Clerk reported th'at both matters had been attended to.—Received; a spray pump to bo. procured for disinfecting purposes, half cost of which will be borne by the borough council.

John Ritchie, Jinn back, wrote staling that I the Church Committee had granted the conn- I cil's rcquost-fo cut n drain or ditch through the ' church glebe.—Received. The Stratford County Council forwarded a copy of resolution in regard to traffic on roads, and requesting the council's support in urging upon the Government the need of introducing into Parliament a measure dealing with waggon traffic on roads.—On the motion of Crs Matheson and Clark it was resolved to fall in with tho suggestion. j

R. Jeffries, Flag Swamp, wrote offering to cart gravel from Goodwood Station to that section of the road from bridge to. End of Settlement road for 4s per cubic yard, and from station to bridge at Is Gd per yard.—Received. Duncan and MucGrcgor, solicitors, wrote forwarding a rough plan of Brooklands properly, Goodwood, showing the road running from tho district, road through the property, and asking the council to mark tho part over which it had control. The Pleasant River was the southern boundary of Waihomo county, and they presumed Waikouaiti County Council had control of the road from tho District road to tho railway bridge.—Mr Duncan appeared in support of the letter, and said the owner was prepared to meet the council in any reasonable way.—After a short discussion, Cr Muir Dioved—" That the council do not recognise any road past the Pleasant River, and that Messrs Duncan and MacGregor be informed that the council have kept the road from Main road to tho river (the road they wanted the council to take over) in repair for their own use only, as it was wanted for the purpose of getting gravel." GF.NF.RAI.. The Chsiruian reported that he purposed paying a visit to the Old Country, and he formally applied for three months' leave of absence.—Granted. Cr Muir was appointed acting-chairman, and promised to look after the interests of the Bushy ratepayers. Accounts amounting to £163 19s 7d were passed for payment. The tender of J. Kitchen for contract No. 480 supply of gravel for the Dunback-Macraes road, was accepted at Gs per yard. No tender was accepted tor No. 483, for construction of bridge at Bushy, and the matter was referred to the Finance Committee. The inspector was instructed to get a new scoop. The council then sat as a Domain Board. A letter was received from Mrs Gow, offering her section of 10 acres on the border of the township as a publio domain at £35 per acre, tho council to pay the cost of transfer, etc.— The Chairman reported having inspected the ground, which was eminently adapted for the purpose of a recreation ground—On the motion of Cr Matheson it was decided to close with the offer.—The Clerk renorted that with the' rents to come in the board was in credit £338.
