Some timo ago the Government made offers of assistance) to the Japanese Government in connection with the famine in Japan, but tho Premier was informed by tho Japanese authorities that the famine was not of such an extensive character u to call for outside help. Mr Seddon has now received word from the Japanese Government that the area affected by famine is more extensivo than had been supposed, and that the Government will be glad to accept any donations for the relief of the sufferers. The High Commissioner also informed Mr Seddon that a Mansion House relief fund had already been opened. Mr Seddon intends to take the matter in hand, but at the same time expresses regret that his original suggestion was not acted upoh at tho iiine.
