Mr J. Rhodes, the well-known dyer and cleaner, wlio retired from business" nearly six years ago, is recommencing at the works built by him 17 years ago at Kelvin Grove. North-East Vallev. Ho has opened a town office in St. Andrew street, near George street (two doors from the City Boot Palace). This is central and yet off tile bustle _of the main street; here ladies and visitors from the country will be able to call in and rest when weary with shopping, or lo ring up tho laundry or dyeworks or leave instructions for van to call for goods. Callers will find the young lady attendant civil and obliging. A friendly arrangement provides for the O.S.L. vans collecting dyeing and cleaning orders in any part of city or suburbs, whilst the office of Rhodes and Co. in St, Andrew street will receive parcels of laundry work for O.S.L. All hough trading under tho old name (Rhodes and Co.), Mr Rhodes is the sole member of the firm. Ho recently returned from a round-the-world trip, in the course of which he was fortunate enough to be tho guest of tho head of the Perlh Dyeworks, who took him all roupd tho works, explaining any new developments. A representative British party of dyers and cleaners officially visited France, Germany, and Italy to exchange ideas, and tlie condensed experience, in flic form of imported machinery, is represented in the machines which Rhodes and Co. are importing direct from Scotland. Several visits were also made to the Yorkshire Dyeworks, where Mr Rhodes served apprenticeship under (he old Scottish form of indenturenot io absent himself from bis master's scrvico day or night.
