HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
l'hc monthly meeting of th-J High Schools Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon, and attended by Messrs J. ft. Sinclair (chairman), J. M. Gollaway, the Hon, T, l'crgns, Dr Church, and Mr T. K. Sidoy, M.H.R. An apology' for absence was received from Mr T. Mackenzie, M.H.R, Tho University Council notified that it had ro-elootod Dr Church and Mr Sidcy as its repsrsontotives on the board. Mr Sinelaii was rc-clectod chairman ct tlw toard for tho current year, and Mr T Mackenzie \Vm re-elected treasurer. Accounts amounting to £527 18s lltl mo rccomincn'dm and passed for payment. Tho bank book, laid oil the. table, showed a. ercdit balontxi of £1133 16s lOd, less outstanding cheques amounting to £507 Us 4d, balance to credit £632 3-' fid. Amount to orcdit of .sinking fund £H5 IS.; 2d. D. R. M'Donald, lcssot, run 161. Moltorota, wroto consenting to the Mokorota syndicate's prospecting for coal on the run, —Noted. The Secretary gave tile names of threo pupils of tho Boys' High School who bad signified their, intention of. competing for tlw Gray scholarship.—Noted.' On the motion or tho Chairman, it ivas resolved—" That the hoard rjWes on record its satisfaction at tho nositions taken by pupils of ca:h school at the recent oxaminalioiw, and expresses its gratification nt iho selection of Sir Farqulmnon, an old High School hov, as Rhodes SMiolar.". The following resolution wa.s also placed on (lie minutes—"That the board desires t:i express its sympathy with the.parents of W. .T.° Dniibnr, an old Hi;th School boy, who recently lost his life by drowning. Young Thmliar was a particularly fine and promising hov—a roc<l cxainplo of tlw wholesome, vigorous, and swcct-temr>or*d colonial lad; tho sort that can ill bo spared." The Secretary snpnlied tho information tliol. Iho mWnt. roll numbofs for Rovs' and Girls' Schools were respectively -'SO and 187, the former beiny a Tecord. The numbers wore not yet, quite complete.
