BOWLING.

PROPOSED CLUB AT KAVENSBOURNE. _ A meeting of those interested in the formation of a bowling club at Eavensboume was held in the West Harbour Council Chambers last evening, about a dozen gentlemen attending, and Mr W. Barclay being voted to the chair.

Mr Itoss explained that he hod called the meeting as a result of a conversation he had

had about a week ago with Mt Thornton and several others relative to forming a bowling club at RaveDsbonnie. He thought, conning on the heels of the tournament, tho time was opportune for starting a bowling club, and suggested (hoy might discuss the matter, and have another meeting later on. Tho Chairman thought it highly desirable to form such a club, and suggested that they might ask those familiar with bowling matters to be present at a future meeting to give them the benefit of their experience. Mr Cray suggested that the first thing to be considered was a suitable silo for a green. The Chairman said it had been mentioned that they might get hn-li an acre of land from tho Harbour Board. He had not the slightest doubt it could be got if proper representations wcro made. Mr Boss thought it coidd, and moved, in the mcaiitiiise: "That it was tho opinion of the meeting it was desirable a bowling club should he formed in ltavensb»nrne." Mr Cray seconded the motion, and, replying to Mr Macdonald, said he thought they should be able to got 30 members. The Chairman said there was the question of having a tennis court in conjunction with tho green. Mr Ross, reverting to a site, said ho thought they could get a U years' lease of land from the Harbour Board, and valuation would follow afterwards. The reclaimed land on the foreshore would require very littlo preparation, as there would bs no draining necessary, and very litlc work as far as filling in-was' concerned. Mr Cray thought a sub-committee might bo .set up to get all information, and mako inquiries as to. getting this ground. Mr Boss said if they could get 30 members fhoy might see their way to float debentures. Ho was informed that many town members would tako up pound debentures, and they could raise very nearly £100.

Mr Cray thought a conditiou of membership .should be that each member should take up at least a £1 debenture. A bowler had •told-him that a fine green could be formed on the reclaimed ground for £150, including the cost of a pavilion.

Mr Itoss's motion was then carried in the form that it was desirable to form a bowling club in Ravenpboumo; a sub-committee to report and make recommendations as to a tenuis court in addition to a bowling green.

A suggestion was made that tho club be called tho West Harbour Bowling Club, so as to make it moro comprehensive in its scope, but it was thought Kavensbournc wa3 moTo. suitable.

Mr T. Hoss was appointed interim secretary, and Messrs T. Thomson, W. Crawley, W. Murray, tho chairman, and interim secretary a sub-committee to mako all inquiries, and report to a subsequent meeting, to bo bold this day week at 8 p.m.

A voto of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
