(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 11. With rogard' to the statement that has been published to tho oifeet that. Mr Guinness will not bo a. candidate for tho Groy seat, Mr Guinness states emphatically that lio will bo a candidate for the eeat against allcomers.

'l'liore is another candidate in tlio field for tho Southern Maori district. Mr Hoani Matiu (John Matthews) intends to contest tlio scat as an Independent Liberal. Mr Matiu is a member of tho Araitetiru Native Council and of tho Karitano Domain Board and Nativo School Committee. There appeal's to bo a general impression among tho Natives that Mr 'I'. Parata, tho present member, is likely to be railed to tho Legislative Council to succccd tho late yon. 11. K. A meeting of the supporters of' Sir Joseph Sealy, a Liberal candidate for tho Ashburton seat, was held on Friday night, when about 60 were present, and a requisition hearing 300 names was presented. Mr Sealy decided to comply with tho request to contest tho seat, and a commitT'oo was formed to push his candidature. A sub-committco was appointed to interview Mr M'Laclilan, the sitting member, and ask him not to contest tho scat.
