THE INVERCARGILL TOURNAMENT.

(Bv Oub Spectal REror.TEßti) INVERCARGILL, April 2G. Tho Inst, of tile , visitors'to leave were Messrs Ball. Kcast, and Stokes who left today by the second express. There was quite a crowd of bov.-lors at tho station to see them off, cheers mast hearty and enthusiastic being given and returned. Six weeks ago there was just a trace of disaffection against tho New Zealand. Bowling Association about tho meeting just coueluded, as the-vicp-prcsident (Mr C J. Payne) was not' considered 10-bs too friendiy towards tho south. 13ut during tho last few days 110 has been so genial, so hearty, so thoroughly anxious to help to keep things moving that tho southern bowlers now look upon him as one of their very best friends. Added to- this, 110 has been playing a- lino game ill the truest bowling spirit, so much so that " Good luck to the vice-president ot the N-aw Zealand Bowling Association" will meet with a hearty response from every Inveroargillite. The last match of tho tourney was played 011 'Wednesday afternoon in a galo of wind, R, mid J. Erskino beating M'llwrick and Hain rather easily in the final of tho Pairs Match. The brothers Erskine entered for the suko of having a game, the lead being a comparative new chum, but they havo performed so consistently that, with tho exception ot the . closely-contested match with Dall and Kcast, fliey havo had comfortable wins. Tho final match against Hain and M'llwrick was no exception, and although tho latter wero expected to get homo, the two brothers gavo them 110 chance. R. Erskine (skip) played some very fine shots, and thoroughly deserved tho win. Bio record 'of tho losers is, however, sufficiently good to satisfy any ordinary mortal—second in ' the Qiamnionship llink, second in the Parrs, and first in the Ordinary ]TCii'.k. The set of bowls won by R. Erskino is a particularly handsome one.
