If is Understood that the Union Steam Ship Company has recently made an addition to its fleet by the purchase of the. \ steamer Lady Btrathcona from an English firm. The newly-acquired steamer, which) ' will 'bo renamed the Wairuiia, is a. very fine cargo boat, and will bo the second .largest eargo-carrier owned by the company. She was .built by Messrs Armstrong, Whitwortll, and Co., Newcastle, in 1904. She'is classed 100 A 1 at Lloyd's, and is 360 ft lohg by 47.5 ft beam by 26.7 ft depth. She was engined hy the Wallsend Slipway Company; Newcastle, and i§ fitted with modern triple expansion engines, besides having a laree margin of boiler power. Provision is.made for about 1600 tons of water ballast, and her deadweight carrying capacity is about 6503 tons. She also catties a Complete electric light installation.
