OAMARU NEWS NOTES.

At the Magistrate's Court tin's morning Mcc Leo, a Chinaman, was charged, on the information of the Collector of Customs, with having opium in a form suitable for smoking in his possession, Half-a-dozen fins of opium were before the court, but as counsel for the defence had only been instructed to appear a few. minutes before the court sat an adjournment till Friday was agreed to, bail being allowed in one surety of £50. Tho elections for school committees did not pay off as quietly as usual. Afc_ the South School two members of the retiring committee (one of them tho chairman) wero defeated, and two others of the retiring . committee who were re-olected resigned this morning.
