SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The monthly meeting of the Kaikor&t School Committee was held on Friday evening, when there were present—Messrs G. Moir (chairman), 6. CY.ldcr, D. Scott, T. Stark, It.. Eeilthimi, . A. Ferry, "W. Wilson, J. M. Wilsoii, and A. Matheson (clerk). The Head Master reported that tho Bchool vacation commenced on the 22tid December, and at the end of the «'e4r tho toll was:—Boya 390, girls 325;— total, .716, and the average Jor the year 6C2. The school work began on Tuesday moriiing, 7th inst., when the attendance showed G-30. For some years the committee havo noted the successes of tho Raikorai ' School pupils ii'i tho various competitive examinations, bnt this year they fe!t-it a diity. Did bhc of very great pleasure 'to minute the Successes of the school pupils during the past year, 'ihey were as follow:— Ex-pupils cafriert oft 2(J prizes in tjie Boys' aud Girls' High Schools last December; three boys took the principal prizes in tho Navy League competition; five pupils wero very prominent in the National Scholarship tost, one being third; four pupils gained Jildiication, Board Fcholarships; and the Harrop scholarship of £25 per annum for two years was won by a pupil of the school. Tho committee heartily congratulated the head master and staff on'these successes, which constitute a primary school rocord for Otago. Mr John Robeits, C.M.G., when writing to express his regret at being unable to be present at the ".break-up," kindly, enclosed a cheqiiq for £2 2s towards, the new gymnasium flihd.'lt was decided'to issue cards at, the • end o< February for subscription to this fiind. The Visiting Committee reported every- . , thing in the Bchool in splendid order, the cleaning and repairing having been carried out'in a first-class manner. The janitor was voted £1 Is.for extra services. A' Voto of thanks was tendered to Jlr Ferry ; for- hisservices in connection with tho repairs to thfl scliboi grounds, etc. Acbounts were passed for payment amounting to £34 Ha sd. —The Hollanders pro not fond of peoplti, and they. have a. very good wav- ii'f curing persons who can, but won't, work.
