TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—ln reply to "Mist's" letter re above, appearing in Friday's issue, I beg to refer him again to my letter of 6th inst., in which I distinctly staled that tho boat was not entorcd. I may also state that, no promise had been givon to onter hor. The probability is that her namo appeared or* tho programme owing simply to a misunderstanding. It is quito correct that it is an , undoretood thing that throe boats must enter for this race (which is usually post entry), but why threo from the ono district (St. Leonards) ? It surely is not specially got up for St. Leonards crows. If so, I have not been ■ before aware of it. I havo always understood tho race wns open to any city or other crews that might wish to compote-,, and was informed by a momber of committeo a day or two before tho regatta that two crews from tho city would probably enter; therefore these erowe have as much; , right to tako their sharo of blame in making the race a failure. This "Mist" must havo been very wroth when he wrote to your paper wildly attacking our crew and accusing us of "business . transactions " in connection with this race. I may say that the accusation cannot be received, as tho practice is decidedly foreign to us, but perhaps not eo to " Mist." On, the other hand, perhaps "Mist" Li ono of the Puritanical sort, and has swallowed and made the most of all the meaningless jokee ■ that wore bandied about among the erowS concerned prior to the regatta. Trusting the mist will roll away from kis brain with this explanation, and that ho will rofleet more seriously before libelling a privitto crow in future,—l am, etc., SuNBEAM.
