While riding a horse at Wilson's Bench, Reniuera, u young woman named While was thrown through the animal swerving, and dragged for some 70 or 80 yards with her foot in the stirrup leather before the girth gave way, and she was picked up unconscious and exuired shortly afterwards. CHRISTCHURCII, January 12. A very serious accident happened at Ilanmer to Mrs. Holmes, formerly proprietress of the Upper Waiau Ferry Hotel. She wno driving with Miss l'ugh along the road with a skittish horse, when it took fright at a man on a bicycle and bolted. Miss Pugli was thrown out on the road, and Mrs Holmes caught her foot in the i'eins and was dragged about a mile. She was fearfully bruised, her clothes being torn off. Miss Pugli had a small Iwne in her ankle broken. Mrs Holmes is ill a very precarious condition.

A married man named Patrick Caughlan, 50 years of age, residing at 351 Great King street, was admitted fo the Hospital at 7 o'clock yesterday morning suffering frtnn severe rupture of the stoniaeh, and though everything possible was. done for him ho died shortly before 12 o'clock last night.
