Tho second number of the Accountant and Business Man's Journal is now to hand. The new venture eaters.largely for students and young men in business offices, but the principals of firms will probably peruse its contents with equal pleasure and profit. In tho present number will be found brief articles on bad bookkeeping and the remuneration of^ professional accountants, the conversion of private concerns into public companies, separate ledger balancing, muchincry and plant account, and selected matter Mr Gilkison contributes a paper on the law and practico in the colony as regards mortgages, and the editor deals with Theoretical Bookkeeping for Students."

Tho New Idea, the Australasian Woman's Magrazio continues to make steady progress. The November number is full of good things on a variety of subjects of interest to women and girls, ranging from an illustrated description to tho latest thing in millinery fads to Buoh a solid article as ■' Should a .Christian Woman be Unfashionable?" Outside the 30 odd pages of departments—such as "Mother's Page," " Talks to Girls," " Pretty Fashions," etc.—the chief items of interest in tho current issue are: "Among the Peasants of Normandy," by a New Zealand woman; "On the Golf-links," c, delightful Nature sketch by Owen Oat-way; "Australian Climbing Plants," by Mm Guilfoyle; " The Matrimonial Adventures of Bertie," "Practical Helps in Homo Decoration," and a cluster of very creditable poems and short stories by Australian women.

Tho Leisure Hour (N.Z. Bible, Traot, and Book Society).—To the October Number Mr E. Porritt contributes a brief sketch 0! tho St. Louis Exposition the pictures illustrating ii giving new points of view. The properties of "Cocoa find the Cocoa Tree" are described by Mt J. Gordon. "Ballads, Old and New," bv Mi Myles B. Foster, is critical and suggestive. He appeals to musical institutions ana influential amateurs to assist in putting a slop to tho nonsense foisted on the public, and to combine in raising the character ot the modern bsillad ifir E. Elliot Stock describes " A Scramble on the Wellen Kuppe, a peak near Zermatt," and Jessie Saxby gives an account of " The Holy Time ill Ha veil." There are two serial stories and the regular departments, such as Oversea. Notes, Science and Discovery, Women's Interests, Chess, etc. The 50 illustrations are really good. Sunday at Home (New Zealand Bible, Tract, and Book Socictv) —One of the most interesting features of the October Number is the account given by the Rev. n. Smith of "Tho Making of the Methodist. Hymn and Tuno Book, 1737-190}." Dr Anet contributes a short article on " The Drink Qi estion in Belgium/' The glimpses of "Life in Ugandi" are continued, and Mr Frank T. Bullon takes for his subject the Frigate bird. " Picturesque and Historic Churches " and " Notable Pulpits " are both excellently illustrated. 'Die serial stories " Meribah " and " With Cords of Love " are both concluded.

The Boy's Own Paper for October, to hand from the Bible, Tract, and Book Society ir roplete with fiction, stories of travel and adventure, results of competitions, and announcements of forthcoming novelties. Dr Fitcheti's story, " A Sea Feud.' is brought to a close. The Girl's Own Paper for October, in addition to the usual features, contains an instructive paper on " Some Physical Exercises for Girls," articles 011 "Menage and Means," " Social and Home Lifo of the Women and Girls of China." " Music as n Profession for Girls," etc. There are instalments of three serial stories and two complete stories. Tho illustrations are excellent.

From the Bible and Tract Society, London, we have received a parcel of their monthly illustrated publications, including tlio Cottager and Artisan, Friendly Greetings, The Child's Companion, Our Little Dots, and Light in the Home.
