EMPIRE DAY AT THE INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL.
Empire Day ma observed at the Industrial School at Caversham. The Cadets, under Captain Burn, woro - drawn up on two sides of the lawn, the girls on tho third side, the Brass and Pipe Bands forming tho fourth side. IliD manager of the school (Major G. M. Burlinson) delivered a short patriotic address, in the courso of which ho emphasised the necessity of their making use of every hour of their lives to fit them tobagoodcitens.and thereby useful members of the British Empire. Owinc to Hie dampness of the ground the proceedings were very much shortened, and after the singing of "God save tho King " to the accompaniment of the Brass Band and n. feu do. joie fired in good style, the boys and girls marched up to tho grounds, and were dismissed for tho day. In the afternoon all the band boys, under the clerk (Jtr Marryatt), spent a very pleasant timo at tho Gardens and tho Muienm. In the evening n, large number of elides wero shown, including a number of views of the principal buildings of London and coloured ones " Soldiers of tho : Empire," ihc latter kindly lent by tho Bible Depot.
