The leaders are thus enabled to clear themselves. They swore that Durantl's statements were false. The Government's action gratified the Boers. * FINANCES OF THE JTEW COLONIES.
At the opening of the Transvaal and Orange River Colony Council, Lord Milner stated that the Transvaal was paying its way, and the Orange Eiver Colony had a substantial surplus. Personally he favoured a. forward railway policy, offering to capitalists more liberal 'terms.
