THE CHILDREN ENTERTAINED.

Through the thoughtfulnesa of the Central Mission, and Sister Marie in particular, yesterday was a, red-letter day far a large numbar of children. About 200 poor children, irrcspectiva ot creed or colour, were gathered from the streets and lanes o: the city and so entertained! that tlio day will live long in their memories. First of all, owing to the generosity of Mr Ktzgeiald, they were admitted, free to the circus, where every attention was shown them, and they were allowed to sit together under the superintendence of Sister Marie. They then made their way to tho Stafford Street Mission Hall, where* they were supplied with an abundance of eatables. Some of the boys appeared to develop enormous appetites; but in the end appetite flagged, and tho hungriest was satisfied. In the centre o£ tho hall stood a toyladen Christmas tree, from which every ono preseul received a gift. Sonic time was then spent in Einging, and , tho children showed themselves equally familiar with " Soldiers of the King," " Kulo Britannia," and " The glory: song." Mr B. S. Itnox then delighted them with a few of his conjuring iricks. Hearty cheers were given Jot those who had provided the good things, and after singing " God save the King" a move was mads for the door, where every chili received a bag offniit. Sister llarie workeci hard to juaku the whole affair a success, and she was amply rewarded; in knowing that all present had thoroughly enjoyed themselves, 'i'his children's treat has now become ono of the established features or the Central Mission's Christmas programme. It is hoped that next year a country outing may be arranged. In glancing over those present it was apparent that the right class o£ children Imd been secured, among them being Assyrians and Chinese. Special mention should be made of ft donation of jEIO from a gentleman who is interested in promoting the happiness cf the young folk. The Rev. W. A. Sinclair was present nt\tho hall, and lent willing assistance, whilst a number of others also contributed to tho success of the affair.
