CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.

The following are summaries of tlic reports to be submitted at this evening's meeting of tlio City Council: —

The Tramways Committee reports having instructed the clcctriw'ai engineero (Messrs Isoyca Bros.) as follows;—To orect the poles for the electric, tramways in Jihs centre of the road aloig Princos street south, from its junction with tho Main Soliih road to the city boundary at Park street; tomake arrangements with the Railway Department in reference to Greeting a pole on tho railway property at Kensington crossing; to act with his Worship tho Mayor and chairman re furniture required for office at car house; to have the poles lor the electric tramways erected in the centro of tho road in Cargill road, South Dunedin; to order an extra nino and a-quarter milc3 of copper trolly wire. Tho commisteo reports thai the Caversliam Borough Council has been requested to lmvo tho narrow portion of Forbury road, from its junction with Cargill road, made up to its full width. Requisitions for supplies for the tramways department, costing ,©l7 Ss, lir.ve been granted. During the fortnight endod-'November 14, 1903, as compared with the corresponding period of last year, the. traflic receipts and mileage for the tramways were as follows: — 1933: Receipts, £1207 sd'; ini.'oage, 18,281 miles. 1302: Kecipts, £1063 ISs Sd; mileage, 18.603 miles. 54 chains. Pay sheets and accounts' amounting to £138316s on tho tramways general account, and £5448 0s 2d on the tramways loan account have been pissed for payment.

The Reserves Committee recommend that tho .application from the Maori Hill Borough Council for permission to form a road across the Town Belt for a distance of about two and a-hali chains, so as to connect the Queen's drive with a new street to be formed through Driver's paddock, be granted, provided the Maori Hill Borough Council will undertake the future maintenance of the road; that MiSamuel Aburn (of Mossrs Samuel Aburri and Son), building contractor, Cumberland street, be appointed. valuator on behalf of tho City Corporation pursuant to terms of each of eight leases. The. committee reports that the following applications have been granted; Combined Dunedin Pipe and Diwodin Citizens' Bands for permission to play :;t the Wangle Reserve, oh the evenings of tho 26th and 27th inst. Lotters of thanks have been sent to the following for their donations:—Councillor Crust for red and white totara pine plants; Mr G. Fenwick for red pine plants; Mr S. The General Committee recommends that the following stands be appointed. for licensed vehicles:—Landau , carriages—Water street, south side; hansom cab3—Water street, liorth side, and in High street for two cabs; wagonettes or four-wheeled cabs—Three at Rattray street, opposite Bank of- New Zealand, and the remainder in Bond street; drags aud vehicles plying to Anderson's Bay—lll centre of Manse street, with starting points, as at present, opposite the X. Y. Z. and Ship Inn; expresses, (four-wheeled only)—111-Rattray street, south side of Queen's Triangle, also in Octagon, on ea3t .side of Princes street; cart stand (two-wheeled only)—ln Crawford street at Queen's Triangle. • Mr James lloir's tender for the supply of. dog eollafs at schedule prices for the year ending December 31,191)4, has been accepted.

The Water Committee reports having authorised Mr George M. Barr to 1 carry cut, by 'day labour, the trenching required in connection with the pipc-layiog between Rosa Creek, and Maori Hili. The engineer has been authorised to act tc notice from Mr John Dodds to erect boundary fenco at property at Whare Flat.

; The ' Finance Committee reports having passed for payment pay sheets and accounts amounting to:—Municipal account, £2520 Gs wu.tor account, £127 18s lid; gas acccuit, £1302 8s ldd; tramways account. £139110s 4d; tiamways loan account, £0143 lis 9d; waterworks loan'account, £115'j 17s;—total, £12,930 13s 3d.

Tho Works, Committee recommends■ that a bridge and platform bs erected at the quarry.at a cost of £100, the proposed storage bins be held over in the meantime, and tho agreement with Mr C. R. Chapman be ccmploted; that a concreto kerb and channel be laid in Union street, bstween Leith and Clyde streets, at-'o coat o[ £25, the. owners of property interested to pay half cost; that portion of Bowling street footpath, for a length oi G6ft, bo widened at an expenditure of £15: that six chains of-con-cicts kerb.and channel be laid in Forth streetoh tho west side, -between Dundas and' St. David streets, at a cost of £30, the owjiers of the property' interested to pay half cost; that, an expenditure of £15 1)0 made 011 Queen street north; that tho footpath in Horiot row be widened nit a cost of £8. 'Tho city engineer has been instructed to act is to expending the sum of £0 in repairing the channel and roadway-of Clyde .avenue; to have the flags lifted in the High'street footpath : below the Arcado, andhave tho path asphalted. His Worship .tli'n Mayor, chairman, and town cl n rk have been" authorised to ait- re application from the Otago Harbour Board to lay a nrivate tramway' to connect the Victoria 1 wharf with tho railway.
