Concerning the mysterious disappearance of the Rev. J. M. Marshall, it is now reported that the week before last, subsequent to his reported disappearance, he was seen 011 more than one occasion by 11 gentleman acquainted v/itli hiiu.

An Invorcargill telegram state 3 that Mr Donald Lachlau Matheson, for 40 years resident there, and well known as a merchant, died 011 Saturday evening, in his seventieth year, after an illness of some months. Ho interested liirusell chiefly in church and educational matters, having been ior many years 011 the Education Board. He was also 011 the directorate of tho Southland Building Society from eaily times, and was latterly president. Probably no'man in the community had a greßter share of the confidence of the people, which was proved by the largo amount of trustee work he did, mostly for country families. He was a man of benevolent-disposition, and but for modesty could have attained any public position in the gift of the people. A Wellington telegram states that Major Coyle, officer in charge of tho Auckland and Wellington submarine mining stations, has retired from tho public service.

Mr A. Macdonald, of Lawrence, died 011 Friday morning, after a l oag and painful illness. For many years Mr Jfacdonald conducted the choir of the Presbyterian Church, and was also a member of committee until within a year or two back, and as convener of tlio.Sustcntation Fund Committee lie was a zealous officer. He was a most enthusiastic bowler, and may be said to have been the father of the Lawrence Bowling Club.
