CANTERBURY DEFEATS WELLINGTON.

(Per United Press Association-.) CHPJSTCHURCH, September 12. The interprorineial match Canterbury v. Wellington was played on Lancaster l'ark in splendid weather and on a good ground. The game was fast throughout and full of incident, the issue being in doubt right up to the call of time. Canterbury won the toss, and elected to defend the northern goal, Wellington kicking olf with the wind behind. A passing rush in which lloborts, Gray, and M'lntyre took part ended in Canterbury quarters. Passing and kicking by Canterbiiry'd 'backs quickly transferred the play to the opposite half. M'Gregor made a dash for the lino, but was collared _ near the corner, and the game was stopped for some minutes through Roberts being injured by a kick on the head. Ho was unable to go on, and Watkins was moved from wing forward to half back. A scrum was formed close to the Wellington line, and the ball came out to Harvey, who clashed over at the corner. Roddick kicked a fine goal. Wellington attacked strongly, and a fino kick by Gray made touch near Canterbury's lino. Wilson found an unguarded ! j int, and dashed over near the corner, Ilales converting with a splendid kick, and making tlio scores even. Canterbury camo back to the attack, and put in a good run to the Wellington twenty-fivo. From a scrum Harvey got th« Ml, and started a passing rush. 'Deans, Rice, and M'Grcgor handled the ball, and tlio last-named got over at the corncr. Roddick's kick at goal failed. No sido sounded two minutes later, with plav in neutral territory.
