AN OTAGO BAND OF HOPE TOION.

A well-attended meeting lor. the purpose of forming a Band of Hope Union for Olago was held at the Y.M.C.A. Booms last evening, ' The Hev.'W. A. Sinclair.'presided, and among societies represented were the W.C.T.U., Otago Sunday School Union, 1.0. G.T. Juvenile Templars, United Temperance Keform, Council, Councilor Churches, and the Bands of Hope of city and suburbs. Apologies' for. absence were received from Mr A. S. Adams and others. Tho Chairman briefly, explained the purpose of tho meeting,' and dwelt on tho necessity of' forming an Ot»igo union. Similar.unions existed; in Canterbury and-Auokland,'but;tho effort ito establish' such in Otago three year's'ago proved unsuccessful. Howovcr, ; tho flev. Mr P, B. Fraser. was gathering information with regard, to scientific .temperance .teaching in schools, in' Victoria and America, after whioh, it was proposed,to wait upon EdiicaY tion Board in'the matter.,:. anil who would assist, to promote Bands of Hope and scientific temperance teaching in the public schools. It was unanimously resolved that on Otago Band of Hope Union should be formed on. the lines of the Auckland and Canterbury Unions, and a sub-committee consisting of the Rev. \V. 'Ai Sinclair, Dr B. E. do Lautour, Mr D. Gain, and His South was' appointed to draft a constitution and suggest office-bearers for a future meeting to be held' on' August 31.
